The Past, Present and Future of Tape Attachments
from the late 1950s to the early 90s, we meticulously sampled the machines, all of which were wonderfully maintained and calibrated. On top of that, we included the EQ section of 3 iconic American consoles from the 1970s and 80s, as well as 2 interchangeable compressors. (They are all also available as standalone modules.) Taupe has been developed from scratch to give you the most realistic tape plug emulation possible.
Blend Control = Dream Control
The Mixing button on the Taupe has nothing to do with the usual dry/wet button found in most plug-ins. Instead, it allows you to adjust the desired amount of “tape coloring” from the source (no tape signal, only pre-amplifier input signal) to the tape (all-tape signal) by blending the tonal characteristics of the machine's circuit with or without the tape component. This revolutionary type of control is a first for Acoustic Sound, and it is also a first for the professional audio world: it has not been implemented in any other plug-in before. now..
True Dynamic Compression, Harmonic Saturation and Instantaneous Limitation
We get it: You're itching to get on the entrance train to Saturation Town. Hit the cassette hard and you get the original compression and harmonic distortion provided by the original machines. The resulting effect can be as subtle as 0.5dB of soft compression, or you can reach an instantaneous limit of up to 6 dB. The transitions will be slightly rounded, reinforced, almost stretched, as only high-quality machines can do. At least until now!
Do you not need a compression effect? The "Econo" function disables the compression component of the cassette, saving your CPU resources for the effects you choose to add to your mix.
Taupe EQUALIZER
The Taupe EQ includes 3 different equalizer models, so you can further shape the sound of your instruments.
The Model A was included in the EQUALIZER section of a solid American console built in 1976. This was one of the most flexible mixing tables ever produced and the first to introduce the automatic VCA fader system.
The Model B is the EQUALIZER section of a sequential console made in 1979.
The Model C is derived from a high-end console produced by a famous Swiss Company in 1982.
Brown Brown Compressor / Limiter
Derived from the highest quality Swiss analog console produced in 1982, Taupe's dynamic module is perfect for bass, drums, piano and even spoken word recording.
